First transmission...
Next week Liverpool is set to host some of UK bass music’s
hottest properties which are sure to provide a diverse concoction of musical
bliss. With an array of genres on offer
throughout the city it’s time to get your dancing shoes on and prepare yourself
for a blockbuster weekend of epic proportions; Merseyside is in for head
bopping, foot tapping a treat.
Kick starting the weekend early in its usual stylish manner
the quirky lair of The Shipping Forecast is our first port of call on this trail
of musical spoils. The venue on Slater Street welcomes back the highly regarded
Abandon Silence for another dance in the hold sure to provide those meticulous
dungeon vibes. With a rapidly growing following after a successful 2011 Abandon
Silence returned in the New Year with some delectable line ups on offer. Boasting
some of the foremost acts in the UK Bass music genre including Mosca,
Disclosure, BOK BOK and L VIS 1990 this progressive roster oozes quality.
Next to jump behind the decks is one of the founding fathers
of the infamous DMZ brand, Loefah, a man who’s been at the forefront of the Bass
music scene for over a decade. In 2009 Loefah set up his own record label, Swamp
81, with releases from artists such as Skream and Joy Orbison. He continues to
push boundaries within the genre as one of the bastions of dubstep, his bass
heavy driven tracks are certainly not for the faint hearted. With support from
Theft, recent Swamp 81 signing and Abandon Silence residents Rich Furness &
Horza prepare yourself for a Thursday night dub feast.
Eat Your Greens has always been a prominent fixture in my
calendar and has consistently produced the heaviest line ups in dub, reggae,
break beats, drum and bass jungle and dubstep. After the closure of one of Liverpool’s best loved
nightclubs, the Masque (sob) EYG’s future was in turmoil as they were forced to
look for a new site to carry on their legacy. Now they have found a new home in
another of Liverpool’s favourite venues the Kazimier offering a superb of dish
of greenery in the form of Champion, MC Illaman, Friendly Fire Band and Kenny
Ken. Peas and love for all involved.
So, got a headache yet? If the last two offerings just weren’t
enough for you then the Waxxx Red Light Party will be there to pick up the pieces
come Saturday to nurse those dreary hangovers. With its incredibly diverse line
up there’s something on offer for everyone to sink their teeth into. Waxxx residents Mr Paul and Jimmy Allen are
set to headline the newly installed tent with a mixture of house, electro,
disco and techno. Live band Gross Magic will be providing fuzzy psychedelic
madness in the red room while local drum and bass label Session’s Faction are
hosting the black room.
Waxxx have been on fantastic form at Camp and Furness, moulding
this unique venue to their will into an almost maze like cavern of mysteries. Many
surprises are in store so be ready to get your waxxx on and take in the carnival
atmosphere for an emphatic night of caravans, tents and good tunes neatly wrapped
into a quaint package for your pleasure. Enjoy your weekend responsibly.
